Physiotherapy
Manual therapy includes the following:
- Massage and Myofascial Release specific to the injury, applied to the muscles, tendons, ligaments and fascia or used to reduce swelling
- Mobilisations to the joints of the spine or limbs. These are controlled movements and pressures to the joint to enhance its movement and reduce pain. These can also be especially effective for relief of arthritis pain
- Stretching of the muscles and joints to improve flexibility of the area and allows for easier less restricted movement
- Headache Techniques to mobilise the upper neck vertebrae (including the Dean Watson Headache Technique), relax the tense neck muscles and strengthen the supporting muscles. Acupuncture and Dry Needling can be especially helpful also
- Muscle Energy Techniques to rebalance the muscle tension in and around the Pelvis and assist Sacro-Iliac Joint pain, Pelvic and low back pain
- Acupuncture and Dry Needling
These techniques assist the body in regaining its normal movement and healing more quickly. Manual therapy is appropriate for children, adults and the elderly, but is ultimately judged as appropriate in each individual case by the physiotherapist.
Our Physiotherapists apply these techniques in a combination that results in the most optimal resolution of the injury. Self-management techniques are also taught to the patient so that the benefits of the treatment are continued and maintained.
Paediatric Physiotherapy
Steph Rand has completed extra training in child development and is able to help children with gross motor delay and co-ordination issues using exercise therapy to help improve muscle strength, co-ordination, control and motor planning.
